Dr. Abel received degrees from Brown U., George Washington U. and American U. He was President of the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium where he formed the Marine Technology research project for the Middle East. He served on the Interagency Committee on Oceanography and was Director of the National Sea Grant Program.
